Role summary
Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, the Sustainability Advisor will work closely with in-house teams and selected contractors to support the implementation and further development of Pinewood’s Sustainability, Environmental, and Energy Strategies and further enhance Pinewood’s position as a leader in sustainability in the film and TV industry.
The job holder will support colleagues, contractors, tenants, and productions to ensure that obligations under the relevant legislation are met, while aligning to Group policies and procedures. Where necessary, and as appropriate, the job holder will refer or escalate matters to the Sustainability Manager.
This role is based within the HSSC (Health & Safety, Security, Sustainability & Compliance) department and works closely with other PG roles, including the Facility Services, Production Management, Finance, and Property functions.
This role evenly splits their time between Pinewood Studios and Shepperton Studios each week, with the option to work circa one day per week from home, as required by the Sustainability Manager.
Supports the department in the company’s delivery against its ambitious sustainability targets, whilst also creating your own vision and strategy fit for the next phase of sustainability action.
Principle accountabilities
- Lead, develop, influence, and deliver the Pinewood Group Sustainability and Energy strategy. Execute strategies to managing and reduce the Studios impact on the environment, such as energy use, resource conservation, recycling, pollution, waste elimination, transportation, education, and building design.
- Support heads of business functions and leaders within the Pinewood Group to deliver an integrated sustainability strategy and demonstrate progress against strategic objectives and performance indicators.
- A sustainability advocate and advisor that drives positive innovation and change across the Pinewood Group.
- Responsible for all corporate Sustainability and Energy use aspects of the Pinewood Group.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental statutory reporting obligations.
- Identify and deliver energy saving opportunities and renewable energy generation for the Group’s portfolio.
- Drafts and prepares reports, presentations, and proposals; presents proposals and recommendations to the senior management team, board of directors, and other key stakeholders.
- Assesses and analyses company policies and processes to identify areas in and processes to which improvements can be made in accordance with the organizations commitment to sustainability.
- Proposes and implements strategies to address various environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, reduction of pollution, recycling, building and facility design, and general education on sustainability.
- Deliver sustainability training and awareness campaigns to internal staff, tenants, and customers on site.
- Management, career development and pastoral care of junior member of staff.
- Support and advise internal property team regarding future developments
Nature and scope
The Sustainability Advisor role will primarily be responsible for helping the Group to meet its sustainability obligations by supporting the Sustainability Manager and wider HSSC Team.
The job holder must be pro-active and prioritise their own workload which may include, but is not limited to, such activities as energy system management, waste audits, sustainable working practices, sustainability advice & training, working practice investigations.
This role works within a complex environment made up of numerous internal and external stakeholders. The job holder must be able to effectively communicate and prioritise demands based on risk and business priorities and in consultation with the Sustainability Manager.
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Degree in Sustainability / Environmental Management, or similar.
- Experience as a Sustainability Advisor for a complex site.
- Control of contractors experience.
- Experience of energy / environmental management experience.
- Delivery of training to colleagues.
- Writing reports and presenting to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of environmental & sustainability legislation and regulatory requirements & compliance.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Calm under pressure.
- Demonstrates discretion when dealing with high profile or confidential information.
- Maintains awareness of relevant legislation and updates.
- Able to commute reliably between Shepperton and Pinewood sites.
Desirable criteria
- ost graduate degree in relevant discipline.
- Member of IEMA or other relevant membership.
- Experience in film, TV and media industry.
- Experience in contract management.
- Able to work autonomously where required.
- Proactively maintains CPD portfolio.

- Role location: Pinewood Studios with occasional travel to Shepperton Studios and 1 day a week working from home.
