We were recently approached by a resident local to the studio to help raise awareness for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). She had experienced first hand the unimaginable impact of losing a child without warning. SUDC is a category of death for a child 12 months of age or older that remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including the performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and clinical history review.
SUDC remains the 4th leading cause of death for 1-4 year olds. It affects more than one child every fortnight and leaves families bereaved, without warning or explanation. These sudden child deaths cannot be predicted or prevented and research is incredibly limited. SUDC remains an under-recognised medical tragedy yet there is so much potential to save lives as is evident from the 80% reduction in unexplained infant death under 1 year (SIDS) due to dedicated research and awareness.
We have lit up our entrance at Shepperton blue and yellow in support of our local families and families around the world impacted by SUDC.
