Role summary

The Post Production Junior Engineer works within the engineering team. The team are responsible for installing, commissioning and maintaining all technical equipment, data storage and networking used across within the Post Production department across Pinewood and Shepperton.

They work closely with the Technical Operations Manager to ensure all technical issues are resolved to a high standard and in a timely manner.

Principle accountabilities

  • Implements and maintains the Post Production systems across all Post Production business lines.
  • Gathers requirements and works with the Technical Operations Manager to implement improvements to ensure the Post Production technical installations are up to date and in line with developments in Post Production Technology.
  • Ensures all Sound Mixing Theatres and Editorial Suites are correctly lined up.
  • Responsible for all technical preventative and reactive maintenance across both group sites.
  • Responsible for ensuring the data storage and networking in Post Production is correctly configured and fully functional.
  • Ensures all systems are correctly configured to be compliant with Content Security policies.
  • Ensures all projectors are correctly lined up.
  • Ensures all equipment is asset tagged and maintains equipment inventory database.
  • Collectively responsible with other Post Production Engineers for managing Engineering Support ticketing system and analysing collected data to proactively spot issue trends and suggest appropriate preventative action.
  • Works closely with the Technical Operations Manager to research, plan, budget and deliver Engineering projects interfacing with all internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Carries out support Engineer tasks as directed by the Technical Operations Manager.

Nature and scope

The Post Production Junior Engineer provides specialist technical support to the Post Production Team and is responsible for the successful installation and maintenance of technical equipment and data infrastructure across all areas of Post Production. These include:

  • 7 Dolby ATMOS Mixing Theatres (both Theatrical and Home Entertainment)
  • 9 7.1 Mixing Theatres
  • 11 Sound Editorial Suites
  • Data Networks and Servers
  • 8 Technical machine rooms
  • 2 Screening rooms

The role within the Post Production Team is to ensure that the facilities are running on well maintained and fully functional state-of-the-art technology.

Working closely with the Technical Operations Manager and other key stakeholders in the Company to plan and undertake work in a timely fashion.

Working with other members of the Engineering team to install, commission and maintain the equipment and to resolve technical issues.

The engineering team are expected to routinely liaise with external companies and industry professionals to ensure that the department is up to date with the latest technology.

Versatility is a key attribute to this role and the applicant will be expected to demonstrate a high level of engineering fault finding on a full range of Post Production and cinema systems within a pressurised environment. Reactive maintenance is required for the successful running of the facilities. The ability to clearly communicate between all staff, clients and external contractors is essential.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • Related subject degree
  •  DANTE Certified Lvl 2
  • Working knowledge of AVID Pro Tools
  • Knowledge of Dante based audio workflows
  • Knowledge of Avid hardware
  • Good understanding of audio signal flows and routing
  • A good understanding of Cinema Sound formats and systems.
  • Knowledge of synchronisation clocks and vid ref networks
  • Knowledge of Dolby Atmos
  • Knowledge of studio acoustic calibration
  • Mac OS
  • Basic level of understanding in IP networking (VLANS etc.)
  • Good problem-solving skills with an analytical fault-finding mindset
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Solutions focused, problem solving attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Highly structured approach to planning
  • A friendly approachable attitude when dealing with both clients and staff
  • Ability to commute to Pinewood and Shepperton Studios

Desirable criteria
  • Relevant technical or software certifications
  • Previous Post Production industry experience in audio and picture
  • Some knowledge of picture grading and playback methodology.
  • Knowledge of Davinci Resolve.
  • Knowledge of projector maintenance and calibration
  • Knowledge of AVID mixing consoles
  • Knowledge of scripting (Python, Javascript, Bash etc)
