Role summary

Pinewood Toronto Studios (“PTS”) is looking for a new permanent full-time Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. Located minutes East of Toronto’s Downtown core, in the Studio District, PTS offers 16 purpose-built sound stages, including the industry-renowned Mega Stage.

This role works as part of the Maintenance Team, but must also be able to work independently and unsupervised to successfully and carefully complete work that is integral to the success of the team, the company and our clients.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine and on-demand maintenance throughout the grounds and facilities of the studios.

The Maintenance Technician is expected to perform work in accordance with established processes and practices, following company and industry best practices.  No trades certification/license is required, but an interest in pursuing a certification or license (e.g. working at heights and heavy lifting) is considered an asset. Work is performed under all weather conditions, safety permitting.

Please note this position is NOT production-related.  The salary range for this role is $45,000.00 to $50,000.00, commensurate with experience, skills and relevant certification(s).  PTS offers a competitive benefits package to eligible employees.

Principle accountabilities

PTS is home to a number of top tier global production companies, so requires a client-service oriented worker who is diligent, discrete, professional, and courteous at all times.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  1. take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts, if required;
  2. review and understand floor plans, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary;
  3. use common tools (hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches) and will have painting experience;
  4. diagnose mechanical issues and correct them as applicable within trade licences limitations.

The successful candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, be dedicated to following health, safety, environmental, and fire protection protocols, and possess a clear sense of pride in a “job well done”.

Among other tasks, the Maintenance Technician will:

  • Perform day-to-day work (including routine maintenance and outdoor groundskeeping in all weather conditions, so long as safe to do so – e,g, snow shoveling, salting, mowing, pruning, trash collection, gardening, etc., and on-demand service requests) and special projects, in accordance with established processes and practices;
  • Ensure the manner in which work is performed is compliant with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements;
  • Conduct regular facility, grounds and non-technical component monitoring, maintenance and inspection;
  • Initiate documentation to obtain formal approval of requested/required work;
  • Receive, track, monitor and report status of maintenance work within maintenance management database.
  • Ensure work meets specifications, quality, response times, and any other requirements;
  • Participate in preventative maintenance program – identifying, recording and escalating deficiencies while maintaining all related documentation;
  • Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement where required, in accordance with company policies;
  • Submit all approved expenditures on a timely basis;
  • Maintain positive relationships with PTS’ clients using excellent customer service and communication skills, high quality work, and timely delivery;
  • Complete other tasks as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • Technical Diploma (trades-related and WHMIS training is preferred but not required).
Desirable criteria
  • At least 1 year in a facility maintenance role
  • G class driver’s license and Safety Rated Footwear.

  • Role location: Toronto Studios
  • Salary range of $45,000.00 to $50,000.00, commensurate with experience, skills and relevant certification and discretionary annual bonus of up to 7.5% of salary.
