Role summary
The Post Production Engineering intern placement is a 12 month contract for undergraduate students studying a relevant discipline. The Post Production Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting the established engineering dept in installing, commissioning and maintaining all technical equipment, data storage and networking used across the Post Production department. They work closely with the Post Production Engineers and Technical Operations Manager to ensure all technical issues are resolved to a high standard and in a timely manner.
This role will be expected to start summer 2025.
Principle accountabilities
- Implements and maintains the Post Production systems across all Post Production business lines
- Gathers requirements and work with the Technical Operations Manager to implement improvements to ensure the Post Production technical installations are up to date and in line with developments in Post Production Technology
- Ensures all Sound Mixing Theatres and Editorial Suites are correctly aligned
- Responsible for all technical preventative and reactive maintenance across both group sites
- Responsible for ensuring the data storage and networking in Post Production is correctly configured and fully functional
- Ensures all systems are correctly configured to be compliant with current content security policies
- Ensures all projectors are correctly aligned
- Ensures all equipment is asset tagged and maintain equipment inventory database
- Collectively responsible with other Post Production Engineers for managing Engineering Support ticketing system and analysing collected data to proactively spot issue trends and suggest appropriate preventative action
- Works closely with the Technical Operations Manager to research, plan, budget and deliver Engineering projects interfacing with all internal and external stakeholders as necessary
- Carries out support Engineer tasks as directed by the Technical Operations Manager
Nature and scope
The Post Production Engineering Intern provides specialist technical support to the Post Production Team and is responsible for the successful installation and maintenance of technical equipment and data infrastructure across all areas of Post Production. These include:
- 5 Dolby ATMOS Mixing Theatres (Theatrical and Home Entertainment)
- 12 7.1 Mixing Theatres
- 11 Sound Editorial Suites
- Data Networks and Servers
- 8 Technical machine rooms
- 2 Screening rooms
The role would work with the Post Production Team to ensure that the facilities are running on well maintained and fully functional state-of-the-art technology. Typically, this can require some planning, up to 12 months, to ensure that proactive upgrades and advancements are booked in around the team’s busy working schedules. The planning will be done working closely with the Technical Operations Manager, the Engineering dept and any other key stakeholders in the Post Production Team including the Post Production Director. They would also be required to react to any operationally urgent technological support, working alongside Post Production engineers, mixing / editing staff and scheduling team.
The incumbent would be seen as a specialist in installing, commissioning, and maintaining the equipment working with other members of the Engineering team to help resolve technical issues.
Versatility is a key attribute to this role and any applicant will be expected to demonstrate a good level of engineering fault finding on a full range of Post Production and cinema systems within a pressurised environment. Reactive maintenance is key to the running of the facility and meaningful dialogue between all staff, clients and external contractors will be required to ascertain appropriate resolutions to engineering challenges.

Skills and experience
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate in a relevant audio discipline (acoustics, audio system engineering, audio post production, etc)
- Previous experience is not a requirement for this intern position
- Basic knowledge of AVID Pro Tools
- Basic knowledge of Avid hardware
- Basic understanding of audio signal flows and routing
- Basic understanding of audio playback systems including DAW’s, loudspeakers and microphones.
- Basic knowledge of audio clock and vid ref networks
- Basic knowledge of audio B-chain systems and alignment
- Basic knowledge of Mac OS
- Basic of understanding in IP networking (VLANS etc.)
- Good problem-solving skills with an analytical fault-finding mindset
- Excellent customer service skills
- Solutions focused, problem solving attitude
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
- Highly structured approach to planning
- 6 months will be based at Pinewood Studios and 6 months will be based at Shepperton Studios
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required
Desirable criteria
- Relevant technical or software certifications
- Knowledge of cinema and home entertainment formats and sound systems
- Experience of audio creation, particularly post production
- Some knowledge of picture grading and playback methodology including basic knowledge of Davinci Resolve.
- Audio over IP networks (Dante, Blu-Link)
- Knowledge of immersive audio formats (Dolby Atmos)
- A friendly approachable attitude when dealing with both clients and staff
