It is with great sadness that we note the passing of our founding Chairman of Pinewood Toronto Studios, Paul Bronfman. Paul was a passionate and vocal advocate for the Canadian film and television industry. As well as his involvement with Pinewood, Paul was Chair and CEO of Comweb Corp and William F. White, co-founder of North Shore Studios and Spark Camera & Lighting, a film producer, and philanthropist who championed worthy causes within and outside our industry.
Pinewood Toronto Studios would not exist today, had it not been for Paul’s dogged support and determination to save the studios (then Filmport) during a downturn in the industry shortly after its doors opened in 2008. Paul, along with other investors, purchased the fledgling studios and focussed on attracting Hollywood producers to the site. As more and more production flooded into the City, he and his fellow owners continually expanded the studios. After selling his stake in the business to Pinewood Group in 2023, he remained a dear friend and advisor to the leadership team, who valued the frank advice and unwavering support.
“Paul was a great man. He was always caring about others despite his own challenges. His influence on the film industry in Canada was immense and we will remain dutiful custodians of his treasured studio that was Pinewood Toronto.”
