Shepperton Studios Launches £250,000 Education Fund

Education Fund to support film and media learning local to Shepperton Studios

The ‘Virtual Academy’ fund of up to £50,000 per year for five years aims to provide technology and equipment for educational facilities in Spelthorne.

Shepperton Studios have launched a £250,000 Education Fund to support film and media learning across primary, secondary, and tertiary education levels. The Fund forms part of Shepperton’s ‘Virtual Academy’ providing education, skills and training initiatives for young people living in Shepperton and the wider borough of Spelthorne for the development of skills for film and television production. The key objective is to raise awareness of media and film production and pathways into the creative industries sector for the next generation of filmmakers.

We have launched our Shepperton Studios Education Fund as an accessible resource for the development of skills in film, arts, and media for young people within the Borough of Spelthorne. It is a vital part of our ‘Virtual Academy’ which includes a number of initiatives to support the filmmakers of the future.

General Manager, Shepperton Studios

Grants will be awarded to Projects benefitting the Shepperton area and the wider borough of Spelthorne as relevant. Grants awarded will focus on supporting key areas of youth development across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of education and actively seek to support under-represented and under privileged groups who would otherwise have difficulty accessing funds.

This fund will have a real positive impact for younger residents in the borough. Whilst it can be a challenge to pursue a career in film and television production, Shepperton’s Virtual Academy will offer children in Spelthorne an accessible opportunity to experience the industry and to develop their own skills and interest

The eligibility for the awards covers a broad spectrum; providing funds to support education establishments incorporating film, media, and television in the curriculum for technology and equipment as well as the resources and practitioners to produce short fun lessons to inspire creativity and develop skills. Examples of how the funds can be used include:

  • Initiatives must support learning experiences at either primary, secondary, or tertiary levels of education.
  • Opportunities for primary students to experience media, music, and the arts through short, fun lessons.
  • Additional curriculum support and learning programmes to incorporate into lessons about roles in media, music, and the arts with a focus on studio roles and production roles.

The fund will be managed by Community Foundation for Surrey (CFS) with applications and awards taking place bi-annually alongside the Studios’ already well-established Community Fund.

Once again we are very pleased to support Shepperton Studios with a brand new Fund, enabling them to continue making an impact in schools and colleges in the Shepperton and wider Spelthorne area.
