Pinewood Group plant trees for Queen’s Green Canopy at both Pinewood and Shepperton Studios
This National Tree week, Pinewood and Shepperton Studios planted trees for the Queen’s platinum Jubilee and the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative and at the same time launched an extensive planting programme across both sites. A programme which will involve 9,000 trees and shrubs planted at Pinewood and 30,000 at Shepperton over the next two years.
On Tuesday 30 November at Pinewood, a cedar was planted and the ceremony was attended by The Countess Howe, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, Andrew M Smith DL, children from Waterside Primary Academy and Thomas Harding Junior School, Chloe Chua our gardening apprentice and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Scenes from the original film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang were shot in the gardens in 1967.
The cedar is synonymous with Pinewood studios with some specimens in the gardens dating back over two hundred years. This planting ceremony is taking place in the same year that Pinewood celebrates its 85th anniversary.
Shepperton’s ceremony took place on Thursday 2 December and four cherry trees were planted in the gardens of Littleton House. HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey Michael More-Molyneux, Chief Financial Officer for Pinewood Group Barbara Inskip and staff from Shepperton Studios including Zoe Atkinson our Operations Runner from the Kickstart programme attended. The cherry trees were chosen in recognition of Mary Poppins Returns which was shot at the studios in 2018 and is in keeping with the rest of the trees in the gardens of Littleton House. Over 2,000 trees and shrubs will be planted across the site over this current season alone.
It is wonderful that Pinewood Studios are embracing the Queen’s Green Canopy project and marking Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee with the planting of this tree today. I am delighted to have been invited to join in celebrating Her Majesty’s service and leadership throughout the past 70 years. With this opportunity we honour The Queen by planting a tree not only to recognise Her Majesty’s extraordinary legacy, but also to enhance our environment, wildlife and climate. It is exciting to know that this contribution to The Queen’s Green Canopy will benefit many generations to come.

I was delighted to plant a tree at Shepperton Studios today to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022. The Queen’s Green Canopy is an important part of the Platinum celebration in 2022. It will last as a living memory of Her Majesty’s’ unique service to our country over many years.

The planting programmes at both Studios incorporate a wide variety of species including Acer, Scots Pine, Silver Birch and English Oak and form a key part of Pinewood Groups’ commitment to enhance the local ecology and environment around both UK Studio sites.
In 2022, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old. 2022 also marks the 90th anniversary of Shepperton Studios which first opened in 1932.
