Based in the famous Shepperton Studios, with a presence at Pinewood Studios, Brushstroke is the natural choice for aspiring make-up artists. We specialise in providing longer courses that train students with the necessary skills to launch successful careers as a professionally trained make-up artists in film, TV, theatre and the fashion industry. In fact, many of our students on our certified make-up courses have gone on to successful careers as make-up assistants to designers.
We were the first make-up and hair company to be based within a film studio and we recognise the importance of enabling our students to study where some of the world’s most successful “box office” films were made. Brushstroke has the largest make-up training facilities in the UK and Europe which comprise of open and airy studios, workshops and store room which houses over 65,000 wigs and hairpieces.
The aim at Brushstroke is to meet the needs of our students and the entertainment industry. This gives us a clear idea on how to shape our professional makeup and hair training. Our carefully designed courses offer the most thorough and professional training in makeup and hair techniques for people of varying ages. We welcome youngsters leaving school, career and lifestyle changers and professional make-up artists already working in the industry. Providing employment ready training is very important to us. For this reason, we include business focused classes for example, managing tax, portfolio and CV development. So together we our training in make-up and hair skills we give our students every chance to succeed when they leave Brushstroke.
Brushstroke make-up and hair tutors are specialists and highly sought after in their own right. They inspire our students within their creative, technical and professional training. Many of our tutors are award winning and have international experience and foreign language skills which gives our students a wider view of the industry.
Our students are regular offered a chance to gain “real work” experience. Whilst we can’t guarantee this work, our make-up tutors regularly requite assistants to work with them on their own projects and they have a ready-made work force inside Brushstroke. Such opportunities mean students can test their skills in proper productions and experience life as a real make-up artist. Please note that these opportunities represent the chance to work on authentic film, tv, stage or fashion productions- not workshops with specially created on-set conditions.

The lifelong connection to Brushstroke is particularly important to our BTEC and ITEC students who make a real commitment to their professional make-up careers. Once a student has completed one of our courses, we follow-up and offer further guidance to help them stay motivated and focused so they find the right jobs to suit their skills.
